FAQ

Does the clinic offer antenatal services?

The clinic does offer antenatal services through our OB/GYN physician, Dr. Charles. He can be reached at our Carmichael clinic on Wednesday and Friday from 2:00pm and on Thursdays at our Collins Avenue Clinic. Please see our home page for clinic telephone numbers and hours of operation.

Is digital mammography offered at your clinic

We do not offer digital mammography as yet at the Walk in Clinic but you can be assured that you will receive an accurate safe examination. Please feel free to call and talk to one of our radiographers today about making an appointment to have your next mammogram done.

Is the mammogram procedure painful?

The mammogram procedure can be uncomfortable at times for patients. Each patient's experience varies. Some may feel some pressure whilst others may feel no pressure at all. There are a few tips:- If your breasts are extremely tender during your menstruation then you should schedule your mammogram at least a week after your menses is completed. Caffeine has also been known to cause discomfort in the breasts. Try to avoid caffeine i.e. coffee, coke etc. the morning of your procedure.

How do I prepare for a mammogram?

If it is possible you should wear two piece clothing for easy access. You should not wear any deodorant, talcum powders under the armpits or around the breasts. As noted earlier, try to avoid any caffeine the morning of the procedure and to schedule your appointment at least a week after your menses is completed.

How long will it take to receive my results?

Results are usually given within 24 to 48 hours from the day you did the procedure.

Can an x-ray hurt or harm my baby if I am pregnant?

If you are pregnant or suspect that you may be pregnant, please inform the doctor or the radiographer before the exam. It is known that small amounts of radiation used in diagnostic radiology can actually harm the unborn child because the cells are rapidly dividing and growing into specialized cells and tissues.

Is there any radiation involved in ultrasound?

No, ultrasound does not transmit radiation but instead uses high frequency sound waves to obtain images from inside the body.

Can you explain what the bone density test involves?

The bone density test or BMD (Bone Mineral Density) test is a medical procedure to safely and painlessly determine the risk of developing osteoporosis. As a patient you will lie on the bone density table while the machine does all the calculations. It is not a claustrophobic exam there is no enclosed gantry to be placed in. The procedure lasts about 20 minutes.
